‘Open the Book’ is a part of the Bible Society and is a project that:
“offers primary school children an opportunity to hear the major stories of the Bible, from a team of Christians from local churches, who present the stories during assemblies/acts of Collective Worship. Each presentation takes around 10-15 minutes and can be incorporated into a wider school assembly, or can stand alone. It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional, but optional, year of material based on Christian Values.”

Teams from St George’s and St Chad’s go into some of our local schools. They lead the school assemblies and collective worship regularly; perform a small dramatic bible study and offer a short reflection and prayer to get local children involved in the Bible.
“Open the Book is a special experience. It brings the Bible to life for children. It is lovely visiting the schools and the children always look forward to us coming. They greet us with a big hello and wave us goodbye when we leave.”
Freda Brugsch, a member of the Open the Book team
We even have our own Temple Gates built for the Open the Book assemblies. What great scenery to help convey Bible stories to school children?!
