John 11: 1-16
Jesus raises Lazarus whom he loves from the dead – but not straight away! Mary and Martha sent messages to Jesus that ‘the one you love is sick’ but Jesus stayed where he was for 2 more days. This story is about the ways in which Jesus surprises people and overturns their expectations. What did Jesus do in those 2 days? Tom Wright (a New Testament scholar) thinks that he prayed. If you are waiting for a breakthrough, try to be patient – without Jesus’s prayer the outcome may have been different for Lazarus. Stick with prayer, trust God and be prepared to be surprised.
