Deuteronomy 9 – 15
The agreement, the covenant, that God sets up between himself and his people is reiterated in these chapters. It is summed up as “Keep my commands and I will be your God and you will be my people”. It is a covenant based upon the obedience of the people and the provision and protection of the Lord. The commands indicate how they should relate to the Lord and how they should behave towards each other. It sounds reasonable enough, but the rest of the story of this Old Covenant is very plain: the people (we) find it impossible to be obedient all the time. A New Covenant is needed, with a Saviour to rescue us. We praise God for his continued provision and grace.
