Luke 22:63-end.
To the disciples this week’s readings perhaps felt like a train running out of control: they weren’t able to keep awake to pray with Jesus, they weren’t able to stop him being arrested, they weren’t able to declare their loyalty to him, they weren’t able to stop the kangaroo court condemning him. And yet it fitted God’s plan completely in terms of what he was able to do. “There was no other good enough to pay the price of sin. He only could unlock the gate of heav’n and let us in”. There is only one mediator between God and mankind, and that is Jesus, who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.
