2 Samuel 1
It was a turbulent time as Saul’s reign came to an end. From a merely human point of view it might be seen as victory for the underdog, David, who could now rightfully claim what was due to him, that for which he had been anointed when he was a shepherd boy some years before. From a human point of view the young Amalekite, who was deserting the defeated enemy of Israel and wanted to support David, appeared to think that as the “enemy of David’s enemy” (i.e. murderer of Saul) this would curry favour. David’s judgement of this man brings us up short to remember that we do not live our lives only from “a human point of view”.
