Esther 8

We’ve read this week about how Esther risked her life to gain an audience with the king, where fasting played a role (and might we assume prayer too?), and how the king ‘just happened’ not to be able to sleep and so read through his books (scrapbooks, prayer journals – they are good for looking back on, aren’t they?) and it results in the rescue of Mordecai and downfall of Haman.  It feels like we’re being pushed into declaring “There’s no such thing as a coincidence”.  Then what seemed like a hopeless situation for the Jews is turned to joy and gladness: can you see Jesus in this story?
