Ecclesiastes 5
There are some gems of wisdom in this book, but it is easy to lose the flow of the argument; our rapid read through might help keep hold of it. The writer, known as the Teacher, makes frequent use of the phrase ‘under the sun’ indicating we often look at life only from an earthly perspective, rather than a heavenly one (‘above the sun’ so to speak). Even our understanding of God’s actions can be from an ‘under the sun’ perspective, rather than an accurate one. Let’s read this book with our ‘New Testament spectacles’ on so that we might see the wisdom that is offered from ‘above the sun’.
