2 Samuel 7: 18ff
Looking around the world there are struggles for power everywhere. And so it was when, after King Saul’s death, David is anointed king of Judah. War breaks out between the houses of David and Saul. It lasted a long time. There is murder and intrigue. Then David becomes king over Israel. These are turbulent times. David, from very humble beginnings, is given victory. Through the prophet Nathan David is given God’s promises – and David’s response is a prayer of humility. We are all frail and imperfect people, but God calls us by name despite this. Can we humbly accept God’s call and his gifts?
