2 Samuel 7
David becomes the king the people needed; he eventually manages to unite the 12 tribes of the nation under the one crown. It doesn’t happen without intrigue and disloyalty along the way in his senior officers, but his rule is established and he becomes known as the greatest of all the Israelite kings. Today’s chapter is a key chapter in the salvation story of the whole Bible. David believes it is right to build a house (temple) for the Lord, but instead discovers that the Lord will establish a house (a line of descendants) for David. This house will eventually produce the One known as the Son of David, the King of all kings. Jesus is the king we all need, and his mission is also mixed in with the intrigue and disloyalty and human failure of those around him. Let’s praise God that his plans prevail!
