Romans 11
Paul is at pains to explain the relationship between God’s ancient people, Israel, and the new community of believers formed through believing in Jesus. He says that God has not rejected his ancient people, nor has he replaced them, but he has refined them through the faith that was always open to them, and indeed which Abraham expressed as he believed in the promises of God. It is through that refining process, of being made holy by the Lord, that God is able to open up the community of the faithful to all people, both Jew and non-Jew, since it is a matter of “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”. Let’s call on the wonderful name of our Saviour Jesus.
