Now there’s yet another gear shift as Jesus teaches his disciples just exactly how he is going to fulfil the role of Messiah: it will involve rejection, death and resurrection. His majesty and relationship with the Father are revealed on the top of the mountain and God’s message to the disciples is “Listen to him”. Maybe this is just for the benefit of the ‘inner Three’, or the elite Twelve? But no, there are 72 ‘others’ who are sent out. Last week’s question about participation has just found a wider group to draw in. Does that include you? Are we amongst the ‘blessed’ who ‘see’ Jesus (10:22)? What shall we do with this privilege?
