Mark 13
The certainty of the disciples about the stability of the Temple is turned to curiosity about the End of the World, and they want to know the precise timings and details. Jesus doesn’t offer a diary date, but encourages us all to be aware of the goal of history, to be alert and to be watchful. The crucifixion could be seen to fulfil a number of the phrases in this chapter. The fall of the Temple (AD70) would draw out a few more. Each fulfilment reminds us to be alert to the final fulfilment by being ready with a saving faith in Jesus as Saviour and Lord. Then the End will for us be about rejoicing rather than fear, whenever it might arrive.
