Thomas. He is famous for wanting proof of the resurrection, but he is not alone in finding it difficult to fit together everything about Jesus. This week in Luke we have read about Pharisees who question Jesus, the disciples who get it wrong about Jesus and children, a rich ruler who can’t see how his riches are a barrier between him and Jesus. Then there is the blind man who sees clearly who Jesus is, and the tax collector whose attitude towards money is transformed by his encounter with Jesus. The final parable of the week is not about how to invest money wisely; it is about who is king and whose agenda we serve. The starkness of this parable draws out how serious is the decision we must make about those two points.
