1 Timothy 5
These two letters to Timothy that we are reading at this time carry a great sense of Paul passing on his leadership to Timothy and so he covers a number of challenges that they were facing in the early church, with some instructions on how he would tackle them. Some of it is about how the church is organised (elders and deacons), some about what it teaches (false teachers abounded in those early years), some about what ministry it engaged in (caring for widows). Through it all Paul is keen to protect the simplicity of the message of the church, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”. Can we tackle the challenges of our day by having that same focus?
