Genesis 45
The original dream given to the 17-year old Joseph has already come true: his brothers arrived and bowed down to him without realising who Egypt’s grain retailer really was. Joseph engineers the circumstances of their return and we almost lose count of how many times they bow down before him. This story, though, is not about revenge for what the brothers did to him years before, since Joseph is firmly of the opinion (stated three times in this chapter) that God had sent him ahead to achieve God’s purposes. It’s a very mature opinion after all that Joseph has been through. Is there any way we can learn from him about how our plans for our lives can be shaped by God’s purposes for us?
