Luke 22.
This week the tension of the situation has been rising in our readings, but still Jesus is in control. There is a physical encounter with swords and clubs, and a spiritual encounter with prayer, but the disciples get it wrong in both instances. Even Peter is unable to stick by his resolve to be shoulder to shoulder with Jesus – perhaps a reminder of our lack of spiritual strength, which is why we need a Saviour to rescue us. This Saviour is the one at the end of this chapter, who, although blindfolded and subject to critical questioning, sees clearly where he is heading and will not be deterred from fulfilling God’s salvation plan. The hymn “My song is love unknown” comes to mind.
