This week our readings invite us to walk with Jesus through some of the events of that last week of his life before the world-turning events of Good Friday, his crucifixion. At one level we will read about the tragic human story of a popular itinerant preacher who is not welcomed by the religious authorities and whose ministry is brought to an end by a scheming use of Roman law. Woven through all of this, however, we also read of how God brings his story, the story of salvation, to an amazing and victorious end at the same event, the crucifixion. May our hearts give to the Lord our humble and grateful praise on this Good Friday.
